Travel Creator Must-Haves I Never Travel Without
Travel content creation might look effortless from the outside, but the truth is this: your gear can make your trip smooth and enjoyable… or a chaotic mess. After years of traveling, filming, living out of a suitcase, and figuring out what actually matters, these are the items I reach for every single day.
They’re light, reliable, and make creating on the go simple. If something doesn’t pull its weight, it doesn’t come with me. Every traveler knows that every extra kg can make or break your comfort and your wallet.
I’ve included links to the exact products I use. Some of them may be on Black Friday sale, so this is the perfect time to upgrade or restock.
My Filming Gear
I try to keep my filming setup minimal since I am the one carrying it everywhere.
Main Camera:
My trusty DJI Osmo Pocket 3. If you’ve watched even one YouTube review on this camera, you know it’s a game-changer. It’s light, compact, and quick to whip out anytime inspiration strikes. The footage quality is unreal for such a tiny camera.
And the best part for me as a girl? It fits inside any of my purses.
Go-To Lens:
Since I shoot all my content with the Osmo, I use only lenses that fit onto it. My number one for a wide lens is the other from DJI that came with the creator combo, and it truly makes a difference, especially when you want to be filming yourself.
Underwater or Action Camera:
I’d love to upgrade this soon (looking at you, Insta360 GO Ultra), but for now, I use a diving case for my phone. Honestly? It’s better than any underwater pouch I’ve tried and gives me great footage… once I learned how to actually use it.
iPhone Filming:
Let’s be real: my iPhone captures a lot of my footage. You’ve heard people say “just use your phone,” and I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes my phone gives me a better angle, better quality, and more convenience. I’ve recently upgraded to an Iphone 17 Pro Max and am loving it so far.
Fun fact: all the photos on our IG were taken with my iPhone 14 Pro, and people with newer models constantly asked to borrow mine because it “looked better.” Truthfully, it’s not the phone, it’s how you use it and how you frame your shot. More on that in another post.
Audio That Makes a Difference
People notice good audio more than they realize. It can completely change your video quality, and without it, you risk losing the magic of your story.
Wireless Mic:
Mine came in the DJI Osmo Creator Combo, and even though I’m considering an upgrade soon, it made me realize how valuable a wireless mic is. I’ve filmed in noisy streets, busy markets, windy beaches, and this thing saved me.
Wind Muffs / Covers:
Again, the wind muff came with the mic in the creator combo, but you can buy it separately online.
Tripods and Stabilizers
I prioritize anything that fits in my day bag. I’ve tried way too many, and I’ve used this ONE tripod for everything. I love it so much, I want to buy a second one for an extra camera setup.
Travel Tripod:
EUCOS 62" is my go-to tripod. Lightweight and sturdy with fast setup, I’ve taken it to the beach, the forest, the city, you name it, he’s been through it. Even with the wind and the uneven floor, I’ve been able to set this guy up with ease. I did change the phone mount because I felt the one that came with the tripod was a bit weak, and my favorite to pair it with is my Woohoto iPhone metal phone tripod mount, but I can’t find it anymore, so I liked this similar one.
Accessories and Mounts
When it comes to my DJI, I use everything inside the creator pack, and adding all the grips and tripod that’s inside the bag makes filming with it very stable. I do use as well for some more edgy shots a support for the car or any surface really and for an even more adaptable fix I just recently got the magnetic mount off of Amazon and it’s been a gamechanger for different angles regardless of where I am.
My Backpack Setup
I always pack for the lifestyle I actually live, not the idealized version. Everything needs to be comfortable to carry, and it needs to fit all my lifesaving belongings with me.
Main Travel Backpack:
Probably the second-best-influenced purchase I’ve made in my life, and I’ll stand by it. My Travel Backpack from Coofay is the best I’ve tried. I want to be very honest with you with my opinion on bags because, as a former flight attendant, I can tell you this makes or breaks your travel experience. This backpack has been with me through the desert dirt in Jordan, the beach sand of Cancun, the cliff in Galway, the thousands of airports, and under the seat of many airlines. It’s been scratched, stuffed, scraped, and thrown, and it’s not only alive, it’s still impeccable. All the products I’m sharing here fit inside it, plus many more personal items I carry with me at all times. And yes, I could probably fit everything in a carry-on, but on the go, this is the best option.
Everyday Sling or Small Day Bag:
I’m picky about slings because I usually hate how they look. But my FreePeople sling? She’s the one. When my favorite style influencer posted it, I flew to the US and ordered it on the way just to make sure I got it (yes… that’s the level of dedication we’re working with). Stuffed it with cameras, lip gloss, everything, and it still felt comfortable and stylish. She’s my BFF now.
Packing Cubes:
I could write an entire separate post on these. These packing cubes keep your bag organized, help with overpacking tendencies, and compress your clothes so everything fits better. Non-negotiable.
Editing on the Road
I edit on the go in cafés, trains, ferries, hotel beds, and airports, so my setup has to be compact.
Laptop or Tablet for Editing
Unlike many creators, I’m a Microsoft girl. My Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro has been my best laptop purchase in 5 years.
I used it while working as an airline instructor, I use it for all my online business work, and I use it for content creation. It’s lightweight, the keyboard is comfortable, and it handles my chaos of files, programs, and tabs without issues.
External SSD:
This is one of the most valuable upgrades for video editors. I’ve had an SSD since I was 16, after our home computer's hard drive burned and we lost everything. Believe me, I have a backup of the backup on another SSD. It keeps all my footage unedited, organized, safe, and easy to transfer between devices.
Noise-Canceling Earbuds or Headphones:
Lifesavers for both the aircraft and noisy surroundings. My Bose QuietComfort Ultra is my best friend, and I can’t go anywhere without it.
Everything on this list is something I’ve used long-term. No fluff, no “buy this just because it’s Black Friday,” and no pushing things you’ll never use. If you are shopping this week, this is when the best deals on travel gear and electronics usually appear.
If you want to see everything in one place, I’ve organized it all in my Amazon Storefront here!
Happy traveling and happy creating!
